Default Enricher question

I just picked up a 2006 1200C. When I first start it I pull out the enricher and it goes back in as the engine warms up. It never goes back all of the way and if I push it back fully the idle seems a bit low. Should I trust that it goes back where it should or is it compensating for a poor fuel mixture, poor idle , etc.? Haven't had a carb'd bike in awhile. Thanks

I used to allow the bike to warm on the stand until I could get a response from the throttle with the choke fully open.

Yes, the enrichener should be pushed in all the way. If you need it out, you need to re-tune your carburetor. I'd take it apart, clean all passages (remove jets and idle mix screw), reassemble and turn properly. Make note of what jet sizes you have. Most of us run a 45 pilot and probably 170-190 mainjets depending on your engine. I run a 45/180 combo in my 883 with upgraded SE muffler, SE aircleaner, and Dynojet carb kit. Others have different setups. Always check your plugs for a nice tan/gray color. The cable on the enrichener is prone to sticking like you describe. You can always try a new cable, about $10 at the HD dealer.

Just ride it with the choke about half out, then you can shut it down after a few minutes. Not a big fan of just leaving the bike to idle in place, especially when cold, if the choke slides in it can idle at way too low an RPM. If you're inside changing into your gear, your bike could be hammering it's lower end due to excessively low idle speed. No Bueno!!!!

My 2006 C did the same as yours. You can adjust the tension on the choke **** where it connects to the tab right near the horn. I believe it's an 11/16th plastic nut on the back / knurled screw on the front which is right behind the actual choke ****. I did it a while ago and don't remember which way that nut should be turned to correct the issue, but if you look at it / play with it for a minute, you'll figure it out. After I did this, I did have to raise my idle by about 1/4 to 1/3 turn in on the idle screw (the Phillips head one that is attached to the carb pulley for the throttle cables, not the mixture screw inside the carb body). Hope this makes sense and helps...

Take a close look at the part the **** pulls out from, as it can be tightened up, preventing the **** from sliding back in when it likes. Make it a little tighter to pull out and it should only go back in when you push on it.
