Hi there, I have a small fuel leak from a small black pipe coming from the bottom of the fuel tank on my 883 Iron 2013. It looks like the black pipe just pushes onto a black plastic right angled connector. Any advice on how to stop the leak? Thanks
Hey Graham, Chichester on the south coast. I'm not with the bike so I'll have to look tomorrow and let you know about the pipe, I need to get it sorted as the smell of fuel in my garage isn't good. Thanks for the welcome.
Welcome indeed old chap! I only know of one pipe, which you can find using a parts website. Seems to me there is a risk it is the fuel supply pipe to the injectors. Hopefully an expert will pass by soon!
Sounds more like the fuel vapor line to the rear of the main fuel line. Fuel can get in that line if you overfill the tank or if the bike tips over.
Agree after reread-good call whylee. I'd pull the hose off the nipple on the tank-Outside-let the remaining gas in the overflow drain. Reattach and should be good to go.
I have a 2008 bike and there isn't a right angled connector on the tank. The quick connect points down as does the vent.
The vent and the quick connector on the fuel line are right angle connectors.
A small black pipe as in diameter is the vent but the small black pipe as in length is the fuel feed. Very hard to answer the question without actually knowing which one.

There is a vent line attached to the bottom of the tank.
It connects through the tank to the filler neck, the tube inside the filler neck.
Then it either goes to a vapor canister, if you have a Calif. or some International models or down the left side and drains onto the ground
If you fill the tank all the way, when the gas expands, like in a heated garage or in the sun on a hot day, it can release some gasoline through the vent.
You will also see some gas drain if you pull the gas nozzle out of the tank while filling and gas drains out if it into the tube in the filler neck.
I know my 18 Sportster actually has a rubber plug in that pipe. The rubber plug has a groove runnig down one side of it. I guess thats the Harley way to help keep to too much fuel from getting in. Not sure when they started putting the rubber plugs in, none of my other Harleys had the plug in it.
