Ive been detailing my 07 Sportster that I just bought a few weeks ago and I am looking for a solution for removing rust from some bolts and washers. Please see the pictures for the specific ones that are my main concern. I tried wd40 but that didnt do much. Ive read some other peoples comments about not removing them because they are torqued to a certain lb so dont remove unless absolutely need to?? I bought some chrome caps but if I put them on then you will still see the rusty washers still... please help as Im pretty particular thank you all for your time!
I would recommend going to your local Harley dealer and purchasing 8 new screws and washers that are rust free. Also, purchase 2 Rocker Cover gaskets to ensure a good seal. Also, purchase a Service Manual as it will provide you with the procedure to follow and the torque for the screws ( 120 - 168 in-lbs).
Thanks for for the suggestion. Instead of going to the dealer cant I just order what I need through the link you provided me? Also do you know if I can get all 8 of those bolts out without removing the gas tank?

Thanks for the link and info. What Id like to do is replace each bolt/washer one by one so I dont need a new gasket. So hopefully I can remove them all and replace one by one without removing the gas tank. Can this be done?
Could I safely use that Loctite rust remover with the chrome casing surrounding the bolts and washers? I wouldn’t want to damage the chrome at all.
I'd rub gently; with that product, I found out that it doesn't need to be scrubbed in hard. Just smear it on thoroughly and wipe away after a while. It's not gonna be perfect though.
