I had read on this forum some riders using ethanol free gas. So far, I had never seen it in the gas station. Just wondering if it is available in the different grades?
I saw a few pumps in Wyoming and Utah that were called "Clear Clean" or something like that. It was ethanol free, but I did not try it in my truck. IIRC, it was priced about the same as Premium blend but was only 88 octane. I could be mistaken.
There is a gas station in Maggie Valley that has premium ethanol free, I don’t remember the name of it. Down the road from the Holiday Motel on the same side of the street.
A fellow rider there told me about it and said he got 3-5 mpg more using it. I fueled up with it but did not check mileage, and maybe it’s in my head but felt like the bike ran better with it.
Pure gas.org on the internet or download the pure gas app. Not all, but too many to count gas stations showing octain ratings and locations are listed in this great country of ours. Personally, I only use no corn 91 in my ride
Isn't ethanol free gas for "off road" use only? In FL it's typically labeled "REC90" which would be recreational use 90 octane and is primarily used in boats.
Depends on where you live. I am in South Dakota. We have everything from E10 (10%) all the way up to E85. Mostly here the only non ethanol fuel is the premium. Most towns have at least 1 station with premium non-ethanol. But you run into a few small towns that only have the 10% stuff. It doesn't hurt them to run the E10 but you bike vary on performance. Mine feels more responsive on premium but I don't get any bad behavior on 10%.
My 2015 F150 states specifically, no more than 10%
Pros and Cons of either, which should I put in my 15K miles 2010 XL883N (Sportster Iron 883)?
I wish they had mid-grade ethanol free! Usually I go with ethanol free (Premium) for my carbourated Triumph- supposedly my 2016 BMWR1200 is o0k with reg. I hate ethanol- lower mileage and hell on older engines... Premium vs reg is basically an issue of ignition point so using premium where it isn't called for is only a waste of money- it doesn't hurt anything. I wish I Knew more about the ethanol issue- I know enough to avoid it, generally So short answer- in a 2010 engine premium non-ethanol won't hurt anything and will get more power (negligably) and better mileage and NO ethanol.
Re: ethanol
If I let my quad (carb) sit for a couple months, it's hell to get her started. Otherwise it makes no difference on my bike (efi) which I run often. I buy the cheap stuff,..87,..as this is all that's needed for the stock compression on a Sporty.
