For years I had an old school bicycle horn. I loved the thing but you couldn't hear it for ****. I would see what really loud electric car horns you can find. Piaa makes a pretty loud one if I remember correctly.
I went through 3 air horns mounted between the cylinders on my 2017 Roadster, 2 mounts broke from vibration an one horn failed due to vibration. Then late last year a buddy of mine bought a leftover 2017 XL1200T and his horn was adequate so I purchased all the parts for a 1200T horn which is rubber mounted and loud enough, so far so good, albeit a bit pricey...
I have a 2017 48 and I couldn't hardly hear the horn in my shop. I bought a mini brute to put on my 2001 Heritage and the 1st time I used it, I almost had a car run into the ditch to get out of my way. I couldn't help but smile as I think they thought it was a truck. So the logical choice for me was another mini beast. When I got it, I couldn't mount it on my down tubes like the stock 48. It's about the size of the stock air cleaner cover. I went to HD and ordered a 1200 horn mount that bolts onto the jugs, the horn mount that screws to the jug mount and the horn mount(the washers, nut, acorn nut, and the rubber insulator.) It is just as loud as my first one and I think it balances out the motor as it has a round air cleaner on the right side and a black round horn on the left. I am completely happy with it. I have very bright front and rear lights, Basinna road rage pipes, and now a loud horn. I think that's all the edge I know to help me be seen be heard. Hope this helps.
