Well after going back and forth with too loud-too quiet-too loud, I decided I can tolerate too loud better than the low rpm air pump sound I get from even my highly modified stockers.
I know I know you told me so, a long time ago. After installing them tonight, I rode it from my shop to my garage (50 yds) and I was reminded of the deeper, throaty growl from the Cobras. So they are off CraigsList and on my bike.
GOOD GRIEF, if I had a mind I would make it up, LOL
Well, I have been there. I never discard the take off items for at least a month or two, even back when riding my softail back in Texas. Still have a whole shelf in my storage container there with take off parts.
I am debating on drilling out the catalyst now on my set to get a little sound out of them. I am thinking about starting with just a 1/2" hole down the center of that catalyst honeycomb in it first, although I know it may as well be out with that hole in it...
Will this site accept just sound clips? I tried uploading videos with sound, at the lowest res and still too big. Not sure what type of file the iphone sound clips are, or for that matter if I can even retrieve them.

They are a bit too loud for my liking, BUT they still sound very nice, MOST of the time. There are times their harshness can get to me, but they do get cagers attention and that is what I want. Too often they are driving along on the freeway, windows up and radio going as I slip up along side them, only to have them suddenly decide they want my lane. I can see them now check their mirrors as I approach.
Also I know lane splitting is controversial to some, but stats have proven that accidents while doing so are almost non existent. One thing I have noticed while in my car, is I hear Harleys approaching, especially with loud pipes, but the sport bikes and adventure types sneak up on you. When splitting, and approaching a "squeeze" situation, a quick blip of the throttle is usually followed by cars moving over slightly.
I experienced a lot of that on my last trip, especially coming through the Oakland area, where I went thru about 15 miles of very slow to stop n go traffic on the freeway.
Other than that my bike actually does run smoother than any other setup I have tried so far. The growl they put out makes it sound very nice.
I experimented a little - stockers are just too quiet. Vance and Hines short shots - TOO loud. Vance and Hines Big Radius - better but still too loud. Maybe quiet inserts would do the trick, but I tried some 3" Cobra slip-ons and think they are the best sounding exhaust I've heard yet on a Harley. They have a deeper, throatier sound than the V&H. Maybe car drivers hear me coming, maybe they don't, but animals do and I think that's worth it for sure!
