Default external breather

Hi
I just installed an external breather on my 2005 sportster 883. I also installed a see through catch can. After 150 miles I get about an ounce to 1& 1/2 ounce of water in the catch can. I also get a tiny bit of oil film (not enough to measure). My question is this normal and if it is where is the water coming from? I always ride my bike until the oil is up to normal operating temp
Thanks in advance
Gerald

Its normal condensation. Depending on the humidity and temps, the amount may vary.

Yes, normal condensation. That's why it's so important to only run the engine if you can do it long enough to get to operating temperatures, to expel any condensation. So, don't just start it up in winter in the garage for a couple minutes, that's worse than just letting her sit till you can take a ride.

You may have missed this in 9 grade chemistry but one of the main releases in an internal combustion gas and air engine is water.

It excapes around the ring gaps and gets in the sump. Then the piston coming down drives it out thru the vent system. Actually as designed, little oil would be drawn in the intake since it falls out and collects in hoses and just drips in air box. This actually makes filter more efficient. That little more moisture in vapor along with some petroleum pollution pulls in engine. That extra moisture tends to clean plugs and valve deposits.

.. Peease don't tell the tin man i told you this. Ment for your ears only.

Wow! There's nothing good that comes from venting into the air cleaner and intake unless you call a diluted charge and carbon deposits good. It also been proven to rob horsepower.
Vent to atmosphere. Preferably from the cam chest. I replaced my breather bolts with solid bolts, drilled and tapped a hole in my cam cover, and use the krankvent KVP38 for a one way valve externally.

my catch can is just a see through plastic container that gorilla glue came in. It is about 4 inches long and has a diameter of about 1 inch. I have it mounted just under and to the side of the air cleaner. it blends right in. I would take a picture but I don't know how to post it.

Other then trying to look out for everyone's future and it is a Federal Law with a $10K fine?
However, I did say I was talking only to the first post.

You are correct. However, since 2004, any car in Canada that deviations emmision wise from original manufacturer is not allowed on the road.

Here in VA, where I get my yearly State safety inspection, first thing they do is peer behind airfilter backing plate.
My Jeep is an antique and when I got it, someone had removed cat. I keep it inspected for liability peace of mind. To do that, I had to cut in a cat.

I have yet to figure who the Federal fine applies too.
