On my 04 XL 1200 Roadster , the Handbook and the Workshop Manual show pictures of Air Filter "A" but in reality I have Air Filter "B" the main difference seems to be that on "B" there is no plastic scoop underneath the " Ham Can " Any ideas ?
Hello old chap, from a short ride away! Our International spec bikes have to meet tighter noise regulations than US spec bikes, hence have slightly different air filter, also quieter silencers (US bikes have mufflers!!). If you look at Ronnies parts website you will see there is an additional backplate for International models only, #29360-04.
When I bought my first Harley, back in the '70s, our bikes were the same spec as US models (even came with a 'wrong' dipping headlight), but by the time I bought my 1990 Glide (both new), it was laden with quietening features, even had a baffle in the inlet manifold!

Cheers for the reply. Actually not so . I've done some further research and received some help from Sportster Sickness FB group and it turns out I've got a full Screaming Eagle upgrade . I have the receipt but I had assumed that this was for the filter element alone but it is for the whole assembly . What confused me was that the previous owner had kept the 1200 Roadster badge on the Ham Can . So that explains the difference .
The setup you have is the Screaming Eagle Stage 1 air cleaner assembly and it does away with the snorkel backing plate. I have the exact setup on my Sportster except I routed the breathers out of the air box and under the bike.
My first thought was you had the SE air cleaner.
The two tubes that direct the air from the breather bolts directly into the intake made me think that.
The current models SE air cleaners have that type of setup.
SE carb? Someone splashed out! Leaving the stock sticker on the ham-can is not uncommon - to avoid detection!
No it's not an SE carb . Why on earth would anyone wish to avoid detection ? Detection of what ? Maybe someone left the 1200 Roadster badge on for the benefit of those who don't know that the tank design is exclusive to the 1200 R .
Thanks for all the replies . I guess that clears it up then . I've got a Screaming Eagle air filter and back plate . I might find myself a badge for it .

Not everyone wants to draw attention to mods, that is all! I used an SE air filter on an earlier bike and didn't see any reason to fit the SE sticker, not least because it doesn't actually add much extra GO!
