Hi guys.
First post on this forum, I need a technical info.
So...I have a 2005 Sportster 883.
My bike's frame was vandalised so I need another frame. Here in Europe it's quite difficult to find a second hand one for exactly my model. So I was wondering if I can fit my parts to another Sportster frame model.
I found :
XL 1200 V Seventy Two 2012-2015 frame
XL 883 N Sportster Iron 2014-2018 frame
XR 1200 X Sportster 2011- frame
XL 1200 C Sportster Custom 1996-2003 frame
I've searched on-line and from pictures of stripped frames the 96-03 model doesn't look the same, the other 3 models looks like will fit
Can anyone tell me for sure if I can fit my parts to any of those frames?
Finding a frame in US or Canada is not an option for me ....the shipping will be at least 1200 USD
You're right, 96-03 were not rubber mount engine, so they're out. Starting in 2007 they went to fuel injection, so I'm not sure any frame changes were made then. Only thing I do know is 2004 thru 2006 were the same, sorry.
There are some minor changes on the lower part of the frame ( under the engine ) between a 2004 and for example a 2018 but nothing special, you can fit your parts in to it.
One straight a way is on a 2018 the left side cover has the two clips in the top rail of the frame.
A major difference possibly is there might not be the mounts for the iron-mongery that supports the rear master cylinder as it is moved from underneath to the side.
I think you should look for a frame 2013 or older.

Nothing major there, never said that it was a straight bolt on but the most important thing is the engine and that fits perfect. I did a swap with a 2012 XL883 on a 2016 frame for my brother in law since his 2012
was trashed and no insurance to cover own damage, did some tweaking here and there but nothing major.
For the OP, maybe this is the moment to convert to hardtail or softail frame for a XL platform is a that an option ? if so, I got a great builder in the UK. A complete softail frame build with your specs should be around
1800 ŕ 1900€ shipped. In EU a frame from 2015 and up with reg easily goes for 2500€ then you better look out for a complete bike around your build year that have for example a bad engine or so.

Reason: type fault
Not sure if this issue is something to consider in your location, but in the US, Insurance rates
can be affected by the CC displacement which is indicated by the VIN number.
SO, typically, an 883 VIN numbered frame would cost less to insure than one
that indicated it was from a XL1200.
Again, not sure if this would apply in the UK/Europe or not.
