Last night I wentto a bike meet at Avebury. Just as I left to return home a sudden lack of power was my cue to turn the fuel tap onto reserve. I did 25 miles on my 883, the most I have ever done so far on reserve. I kept to a steady 50 mph. How far have you gone on reserve and has anyone ran the tank dry?
I usually start looking for fuel as soon as I switch to reserve, but I have gone as far as 32 miles on reserve. She was getting pretty close to empty at that point.
Never ran it dry but, did finally pull up to a gas station and put in 3.1 gallons in a tank that can hold 3.3 gallons. You might say that I was on fumes.
I usually hit reserve around 170-185 miles - that's on a 4.5 gallon tank. I think I could push the bike another 40-45 miles before I would run out (I average a between 48 - 53 mpg) but I tend to look for a gas station as soon as I flip over to reserve.
Not sure of the mileage, but let's just say I've taken the reserve as far as it possibly could. [8D]
Yes, I ran it dry once,[&o][:@]but I wasn't keeping track of the mileage at all. I was a little over two miles from the nearest gas station. Luckily a co-worker/buddy of mine decided to tuck in behind me with his car cause he saw me doing the "Shake the Tank" move trying to getwhatevergas drops that were left in the tank over to the petcock side as I coasted to the side of the road. I started using the tripodometer from then on. [8D]
