So it seems you guys are saying that a external breather system is kind of a waste of $ then?

I would defer comment until someone like cacomly comments on how his engine is setup. If he doesn't use an external breather and he can confirm how much carbon build up was in his engine with 206,000 miles on the clock it would be difficult to give a definitive answer.

I would just suggest the moment you start your bike up you ensure you are going somewhere with sufficient time or distance to get the engine thoroughly warmed through.

Try overfilling the oil bag and running it really hard if seeing oil come out would make you feel better.

So out of thousands of bikes, you will pick one out and judge all the others by this one. That's some logical thinking there. A sample of one is not accepted in any kind of testing. LOL

As mentioned previously, every engine vents varying amounts out the breather bolts. There are many variables that contribute to how much and how oily it is. For the OP, you can put your finger right near your open bolts while the engine is running and you will be able to feel it.

Below is a fun video. Grab some balloons and do it yourself if you believe no air is coming out.

Here's a LINK to a report that talks more about the subject.

Below is a chart (taken from above link) showing some typical amounts of hot, oily, oxygen depleted air moving thru the vents. Remember, every bike is different, but every bike is moving some.

And the pictures of one bike is repeatedly shown as if all Sportsters are spewing loads of crap from the breathers and the pistons have so much carbon it is a wonder any of our bikes run at all.

I suspect tunafisher729's bike is indicative of the many and not the few.

Cacomly's bike will offer up very good information on the carbon build up within a Sportster engine because it has the miles it has.

Another useful post that offers nothing and offers nothing constructive as to why we should all go and fit an external breather.

Perhaps you could show us the contents of your catch can as proof?

Perhaps you could go pound sand. You never offer much of any thing on here with the exception of excessive whining. For your information I have been working and building Harleys since the 60s. I have had a catch can on my truck for 20 years but showing it to you would not change your mind on any thing. You are free to do what you want to your bike but let the ones of us who are serious about performance do what we want. Oh and have a very pleasant rest of the day.

Lmfao!!

The reality is I am looking to do it. I have seen a nice install with using the SE air cleaner.

You can only show the DK picture as if that is the gospel unto apache that we must all do it regardless. And that is not whining.
