Maybe he's figuring with all that rain, dust does not have a chance to get airborne LOL.

Haven't had any problems in the rain with cover off of mine and I go through heavy rain. Thinking of just polishing it up or waterjet a cover plate from aluminum, also have seen the stock ham cans cut down in the front and some screen epoxied on for a ram effect.

I used to fly ICE powered rc helicopters off a dusty patch for many years and those engines don't have an air filter. Never had a problem and neither did the guys I flew with. Much smaller engine that you would think would be more susceptible to dirt particles.

Last year at a bike meeting was a guy with a home brew twin turbo charged bike. That was a thing of beauty but I have no picture.

Interesting idea on the ham can mod. Thanks for the feedback on the exposed filter.

By letting all the extra air in, won't the engine run a lot leaner? I put an aftermarket air cleaner on mine and it coughs like an elderly COVID patient until it warms up. Once it's warm it rides great. Seems to me like rain would only be an issue if you rode for extended periods of time in a downpour. Otherwise, it would take a long time to saturate the filter element.

I could just get a new tune, or run autotune a few more times, if that becomes an issue.
