Default Cold Air Intake question

My bike has the SE stage 1 intake on it, but with the ham can cover, the direction the incoming air comes from, is essentially right from the cylinders. Seeking cooler intake air, I am considering removing the outside cover. However, since I don't like the look of the metal side of the filter, I wondered if there are aftermarket plates that cover that up, and aftermarket rain covers for said filter.

I know I could buy a new filter with that, but trying to conserve funds here.

Just take it all off and use a velocity stack or bellmouth inlet.

Not really thought about it but is there really that much crap in the air that needs filtering?

Uhh, yes there is. Especially here where hot dry days in certain areas you can get sand storms blowing sand sideways. Personally do not care to ruin my engine. I will NOT run without a filter, nor was I proposing to, just looking for a bit more cool air, and a little nicer look, in my opinion.

This was the kit installed on mine before I bought the bike. The SE plate goes on top of stock ham can.

In my opinion, thE same could have been accomplished by buying just a washable filter. Lot of extra money for a SE name badge on the front.

I bought the Hurricane flow AC specifically because I wanted to keep the ham can cover, once I installed it I liked the look of it better without the ham can so I spent many hours polishing the Hurricane flow outer cover and reused the black oval Roadster cover to hide the bolt locations for the ham can cover.
It was a free mod and personally I like the look, some may not, there is a good closeup photo of it in my gallery below my signature.

And it does solve the problem of the hot air, the air moving past the bike at speed feeds directly into the filter.

handirifle when your bike was stock the filter black plate was fully enclosed to the ham can and had just a small opening at the front. It also had a different filter and didn't need the small pipes to direct the breathers into the throttle body.

Even nearly invisible airborne dust is abrasive enough to do wear damage to the cylinder walls. It’s a great idea if you want do a top end rebuild every 5,000 miles with your oil change,

Yea I haven't looked at stockers to compare, but I would still like something closer to hotlap's idea. His is not exactly what I am after though. I won't do anything to this filter, unless I can also find a rainsock for it. This is California, but it does occasionally rain, and I seem to be out in it when it does. Got soaked on last summers ride checking out glass beach. LOL was a 10 min ride back to hotel, but we got caught by fast downpour. Didn't even have our jackets on. Checked in at hotel, rode to beach and 20 min later, downpour. Sky was overcast, so we didn't notice storm clouds till it was too late.
Ahh well part of the adventure.

As I sit in the living room recliner, looking out patio doors, staying away from covid19 folks, it is raining again. Has been last 3 days.

Anyway as I mentioned, I want to open all sides to the cooler air. This cover is only open about 4-5 inches worth at the bottom. Would prefer more.
