what year should be DOT 5 its all purple should say on ur cap if dot 5 cant use anything else. seals made for silcone will leak after time even if you flush all traces of dot 5 out
if not DOT 5 any dot3,4,and 5.1 will work just fine you can find dot 5 at some parts store much cheaper then dealer if 2007 and newer should be DOT 4
Thanks. As it degrades it loses the purple color? Def leaked some when I first pulled my cables apart.
yes after time it will turn more yellow or amber but it should not have any floaties in it or be brown. i have seen some old bottles never open change to amber. it takes so little i flush mine out every year. one good thing about 5 is it dosent absorb moisture or eat paint like regular fluid does

I've been using DOT5 since 1990. It will certainly turn yellow after approx. 2 years, the routine interval for changing fluids. I haven't left mine any longer, to see if it continues to change! Your local friendly Harley dealer will definitely have some, but it may be less easy to find in a normal auto store. Harley turned to DOT4 when they started using ABS, as apparently DOT5 tends to become aerated for some reason.
