Default Stalls out
Need some help please, 1999 1200 sportster, runs good for about 20 minutes then goes into back firing and stalling out, I have replaced coil, plugs, plug wires, vacuum lines , drained all gas and cleaned filter on pet ****. Won't start after shut off untill about 30 minutes of cool down then will run and do same thing all over. Any suggestions

how about the ignition mod. in the old points cavity?

You've replaced the spark side of things but when this happens have you checked for spark? You know you are getting fuel? Spark, air, fuel. All 3 it runs, minus one it won't. Don't guess what's wrong and just throw parts at it, figure it out. That gets expensive without results. Good luck.

Last night when it did it I was able to run about 20 mile an hour and as long as I didn't throttle it much it ran so I got home so that should say it has spark and some fuel

Does it have a fuel filter?

I think your year bike (98-03) may have the "infamous" nosecone ignition, known to cause similar problems to what you describe. It's failure is temperature related, so keeping your speed down probably kept the temps down as well, and riding at night. Harley does not make a replacement, so that tells you something.
