Default Smart Security Sportster Keyless Ignition

I originally posted this as a reply to an older post about this subject on a sportster 48. However, I thought I would make a new post due to the number of times I have seen similar posts from sportster owners who have been told it cannot be done using factory parts.

The Smart Security system kit from HD absolutely will make a late model (2014+ I believe) keyless. I had the exact same problem on my 2016 iron 883. After having the Smart Security kit installed at a local dealer, and finding I still had to use a key, that keyless ignition had to be ordered from the factory and couldn’t be added. I got the same answer from several dealers, but after a lot of research and talking a tech into connecting the Digital Technician and letting me poke around, I found the answer. All you need is the Smart Security kit from HD and a dealer that either knows how to set it up or a dealer that is willing to listen. In the BCM options, under the switches category, there is a place to enable or disable the ignition switch. Checking the box to disable the ignition switch will make the bike keyless, using the run switch on the handlebar as the switch when the fob is in range, just like the factory equipped bikes.

I dealt with this for about a year and went through a lot of frustration to finally get it working. Hopefully this post can save others the headache.

While you were poking around did you see any options for the self cancel on the indicators?

Well done on your endeavours. The bikes to the UK come keyless as standard.

HDSportster, have you any idea if this would apply to any Sportster with the smart security system(fob & ignition switch)or only the later 2014+ models,i have just bought a 2012 with security/proximity fob,but i don't know if that is the same as "smart security" as you describe above.
Thanks,Graham.
