Smart Security Sportster Keyless Ignition
The Smart Security system kit from HD absolutely will make a late model (2014+ I believe) keyless. I had the exact same problem on my 2016 iron 883. After having the Smart Security kit installed at a local dealer, and finding I still had to use a key, that keyless ignition had to be ordered from the factory and couldnt be added. I got the same answer from several dealers, but after a lot of research and talking a tech into connecting the Digital Technician and letting me poke around, I found the answer. All you need is the Smart Security kit from HD and a dealer that either knows how to set it up or a dealer that is willing to listen. In the BCM options, under the switches category, there is a place to enable or disable the ignition switch. Checking the box to disable the ignition switch will make the bike keyless, using the run switch on the handlebar as the switch when the fob is in range, just like the factory equipped bikes.
I dealt with this for about a year and went through a lot of frustration to finally get it working. Hopefully this post can save others the headache.
