Default do i have a hugger?

my friend has a 2005 custom 883. i have a 2001 883 (not custom) we put our bikes side by side. Mine is noticeably lower than his. not only seat height, but the rear end of his is higher. by a good amount. We were very curious about that. Does that mean i have a hugger? Is this a good thing with resale value, or no?

I'm pretty sure the term hugger was replaced with low for the newer bikes...so i guess you either have a hugger or a low..no biggie....resale???? as short person like myself would be looking for a low..so to a shorty, it would be desirable....follow me...just enjoy it..don't worry about selling it..

Check the VIN, that will tell you if it's a Hugger or not.

Check your VIN number, if it has "CEM" then it is a Hugger

CAM = XLH883
CEM = XLH883 Hugger
CKM = XLH883R
CJM = XLH883C CUSTOM
CAP = XLH1200
CGP = XLH1200C CUSTOM
CHP = XL1200S SPORT

Don't worry too much. Me and my best friend each bought our sportsters in 2003. Both 883C's. Mine is two tone silver/black, his is vivid black. He bought his in the Bay area, I bought mine in the Sacramento area. the vin's are about 600 numbers apart. They have the exact same rear shock adjustments as we both weigh the same. But... sitting side by side, his bike is lower than mine. Significantly lower. Both the front and the rear. We also found that he has more room between the front of his tank and his triple trees. So who knows??

i own a 2003 hugger 883. the only major differences between it and the standard 883 are the height or the seat, ground clearance, and the handlebars. the stock hugger has buckhorn (read: slung back/not straight) handlebars.

i don't really think it's worth any more or less than a standard 883 as it's not extremely rare or anything.as far as seat height and handlebars go it's all a matter of personal preference. it works out well for me because my legs are short!

As far as resale value. For some reason the 2008 883L is list priced $450 higher than the standard 883. As far as I know, they were priced the same before 08. I doubt that will really effect your resale value, but there it is, for what it's worth.
