Just bought a 2013 Sportster Seventy Two with lots of extras. V&H Short Shots, V&H Fuelpak, Lapera Two Up Seat with sissy bar and backrest pad (may change that), Chrome Breather, Alarm, & several other aftermarket upgrades. I've changed the oil (& filter) and changed the primary fluid. Used a high performance chrome K&N filter and Mobile1 V-Twin full synthetic for oil and primary (hope that's good). Next order of business is to find some nice looking leather saddle bags. Probably gonna want to carry a couple of fuel bottles for reserve, so might want some option for that. Only issue right now is the low fuel indicator light stays on with full tank. I'll make some pics of the bike and post them tonight. Open to any and all suggestions.
Sportsters use two different oils...one type for engine (motor) and another type for the primary (clutch & gear box).
If I am reading correctly, you've placed motor oil in the primary.
You might wish to re-visit that.
That my comment, congrats and 72s are awesome.
According to HD, you can run the same engine oil in the primary. I've done some research here and there seemed to be mixed opinions, but many run 20w-50 engine oil in the primary.

according to my tech. You are correct .
i have run 20w-50 in both and never seemed to have a prob.
No. The seventy two's don't have a fuel gauge, just a low fuel light.
I know that but there is an option to fit one. As part of the installation the resistor pack has to be changed out for a jumper plug. My question relates to that.

Has the bike been stored for a while or regularly ridden up until you bought it? I ask because I had that problem with both bikes ('07 XL1200C and '16 xg750a) this spring. This was the first year that the bikes weren't ridden all winter. After a couple of fill ups they suddenly started working normally.
