Default Winter Project?

Considering this one. I assume the piston came loose. What do you guys think?

Offer $900, just a parts bike unless it is running. Would make a good project; however, if there is more damage than just the piston, it may cost a couple of thousand if you have to split the cases and replace the rods or other parts that got crapped up with broken pieces of metal inside the engine cases.

I was thinking the same thing. I have wrenched on cages all my life including engine overhauls but not a lot of cycle work. I think it would be fun to get into something like this.

If you do get it let me know as I have a couple of websites that will help you out. Get a factory service manual and you should have no problems. There are not too many Sportster Sports out there (XL1200S). Mine has dual spark plug heads, I think the 1998 also has dual spark plug heads.
