I was polishing the rear wheel on my 2006 Xl1200c.I noticed some blistering on the chrome that goes around the out side rim. When I looked closer,I noticed some areas were missing the chrome. This is on a slotted Alluminium disc.Is anyone else having this problem?
If the bike it under waranty take it to the dealer. I've heard a few people with this problem on chromed aluminum rims on '06 bikes, and the problem was supposedly caused by poor chrome and materials used in stock brake pads and the brake dust caused the pitting. All of which i beleive did say they recieved a new wheel under warranty and have also switched to kevlar based brake pads also. I don't remember which forums I heard this on, but it was either here or on xlforum.net so do some searching if you want to read them.
I disagree. with semi metalic pad material causing metal to bubble. I had a slight problem with my pipes and this was the answer from a paint and body shop. Chrome bubbling is caused by poor chroming an/or impurities in the metal while chroming. If H/D chromed a aluminum wheel, that's nuts. Maybe my 07 1200c is a freak and I have been around custom wheels for 20 years, it's polished aluminum clearcoated. Prove me wrong and I'll stand corrected.
Just a topic of conversation J W. I aint startin nothin. Just can't understand why members have such craftmanship/running problems with their bikes, and after 8000 combined miles on 2 bikes haven't seen any of that.
