Default License plate holder with bobbed fender

I'm usually over on the Touring Forum but will be doing some upgrades to a 2013 Iron soon. We plan to bob the rear fender and the frame back to the forward fender support screw. We won't be keeping the fender strut covers. Relocating the turn/brake lights seems easy. I know we can get an aftermarket bracket to go on the axle for the license plate. But who has reused the factory bracket and how much modification was required to do it? The bike is in another state right now so I can't go look at it. Any pictures you have would be appreciated.

My 07 bracket was two pieces welded together so I removed the back piece and flattened the main piece to a much sharper angle and put it back on, now it’s a lay down plate. I always kind of wondered why people buy the lay down plate bracket when it’s so easy to modify the factory bracket, all you need is a grinder and a vice and about a half hour.

I don't know if I was clear about what bracket I'm asking about. The '13 Iron has the side mounted folding license bracket that usually bolts to the same place as the left turn/brake light. After we cut the frame shorter that bolt will no longer be there. Has anybody found a way to reuse the stock bracket by relocating it after bobbing the fender and frame?

I had the same side folding factory license plate bracket you're referring to. I considered trying to modify it to work because I liked the folding feature. I really never had a good solution for it, and instead bought a TC Bros side mount license plate, with LED license plate bolts. I figured I can sell the factory license bracket on eBay for more than I paid for the side mount.
