Default question about pipes....

What is the major difference between the 04-06 pipes to the 86-03 pipes? I see so many kick *** pipes for the rubber mount sportys that are not available for the earlier years....

so say I wanted to get some Vance and Hines short shots for my '96that are for a 04-06they would work?

I don't know anything aboutVH SS but imagine that they could bemade work but likely there are mounting issues where the brackets are in relation to the rear brake resivoir.

Maybe I'll take a ride to the Stealer to look at the mounting system...

The 2004+ Sportster still have the 'crossover pipe', but it is hidden behind the pipes.

On the 2003 and earlier Sportsters it is mounted up high, between the cylinders.

Here is a picture of a 2005 1200C. Kind of hard to see the crossover pipe, but if you look closely you can see where one end of it attaches to the front muffler.

OFG, had not noticed that b4 on my buddies 06. still don't know the purpose, wish my 02's was "hidden".
