Default Damaged Frame (weld or replace?)

Hi everyone,

I would be very grateful for some feedback on the following. I purchased this bike secondhand but only realized the damage when I was cleaning the bike and it is very obvious now that I have seen it..

Bike: 2018 XL1200T Superlow

Damage
- Both mounting points for the front engine guard
- Bottom crossmember is slightly bent and has visible cracks on the weld. The load bearing tubes appear to be damage free and the crossmembers under the frame appear undamaged or bent (for reference see pictures 1,2,3,6)
- Top mounting point which is where the top engine mount also sits, the screws appear to be bent in the frame and are not loose but there is a enough room that you can move the washer (for reference see pictures 4,5)

Would anyone advise repairing the frame (welding bottom crossmember and probably re-threading the top mount) or would you deem the frame a "write off"?

Many thanks!

bottom bracket (rightside), crack visible

bottom bracket (rightside)

bottom bracket (leftside), bend visible

no sign of damage under the bike

What happened to this bike? Did you not know before you bought it?

The frame needs to be changed. Any insurance company would have totaled this bike

Hey, I purchased it from a dealer (general bike dealership, not HD) and was advised it was not crashed.... I did check around the bike before buying it but somehow missed this, despite it being very obvious now.

I would see what the dealer says, and ask them to make it right. I would not want to deal with a re-welded frame; that bike took a very hard hit somehow.

My guess is she's been wrecked and hard. Is the title clean or rebuilt? Have you ran the VIN?

So all the damage is around the engine guard mounting points. That doesn't speak of a hard wreck but more of the guard striking something at speed.

I cant understand why this would bother you. I am an adv rider but have 2 harleys (2007 and 2014 so not new) and think that we own machines and these machines get dings, dents, scratches and even a chunk or two taken out. This damage appears to be in a place that you cant even see unless you are really hunting for it.

You have a great bike and this issue isnt even worth getting upset about. There are real things in life to get upset over and there are things that should be water over a dam. In my humble opinion, i would try not to let this ruin even one moment of my happiness. Life is too short.

Im a welder so I would weld it , but getting to the area to be welded is very tough to get to, and that presents a problem itself
