Question 2014 Forty-eight rear rotor size?

Researching brake pads and rotors to replace in the fall season. The stock front measures 11.5" which seems pretty standard to find a replacement for. There are no shortages of options. But the rear (I swear) is only 10". Am I just really bad a measuring or is the rear rotor on the 2014 Forty-eight actually smaller than traditional sizes? And does anyone make a replacement rotor that size? I'm not really finding much at that size.

Bonus question: if I were to get an 11.5" for the rear (which some sites tell me I should purchase) how do I modify the caliper position to accommodate for the extra 1.5"?

The brakes were updated for 2014. The front rotor was enlarged to 300 mm or 11.8 inches. The rear was left the same at 260 mm or 10.236 inches. The rear caliper was changed to a dual pistons ar 38mm. This was improved from previous sportsters. probably 70 to 80 % of the breaking is done by the front braking system. Going to a larger rotor in the rear wont help that much. But if it makes you feel better its your money. Cant help on the relocation of the caliper.

Thanks. I should at least replace the rear pads which should be simply enough still.

Another person also confirmed the size. Apparently some companies (Lyndall Brakes for one) make a bracket to relocate the rear caliper so accommodate the 11.5" sizes.

Anyone else know of places that make them?

I know this is a very old post, but I have a bracket made by Lyndall Brakes that allows you to run the 11.5 inch rotor on the rear of a 2014+ Sportster. If by chance you are still looking to do such you can hit me up on Instagram @trucker_Mac

The only reason I'm selling it is because I had a custom one off bracket made.for the rear of mine to run an 11.5 inch rotor and a Brembo P34 2 piston caliper.

the main reason I went from the 10.2 to the 11.5 is because the stock fixed rotor squeaks regardless of what pads are used, but that issue is fixed by using a floating rotor which there are many of in the 11.5 inch. Now, there are at least 2 companies that offer the 10.2 in a floating rotor (Galfer and Discacciati) and while they swapped from the 11.5 to the 10.2 with the 2 piston caliper, I would hard!y call it an upgrade. The rear brakes on the 2014+ bikes suck. I initially swapped from 10.2 to a 11.5 Brembo floating rotor and Brembo pads. I have since ditched the entire OEM rear brake system. I am using Hammerhead Designs CNC machined foot controls attached to a HEL Performance CNC rear master cylinder, HEL Performance braided line, an 11.5 Galfer floating rotor, a one off cnc machined bracket and a Brembo p34 2 piston caliper. The OEM rear setup without ABS is a joke as it barely works and then locks up solid because the OEM master cylinder and 2 piston, one sided caliper work against each other. The new setup, while expensive and a complete mutant setup both looks and works incredibly, and the rear actually has feel to it lol

I can't offer any ideas on suppliers for rotors.
You are correct, you will need a special/ new bracket for repositioning the caliper on that larger rotor.

Then it never ends, master cylinder, caliper, brake line, pad compound choice, balance the feel front to rear..... LOL.
+1 for full floater rotors

FWIW. Me, I just keep the OEM rotors and experiment with pad compounds.
Good luck with your project.

Well, it's not that special, just need the bracket from the older models.
Granted I'm not sure the 'newer' caliper will fit the older style bracket.

I went to a larger EBC floating rear rotor on my '13 Iron. A few pics:

good luck,

T.

Ain't that the truth. So does the aftermarket replacement I bought. Thanks for the details on the fix...sounds legit...

There has been a few posts over the time I have been on HD forums of folk separating the caliper from the mounting bracket and having a huge problem there after of the brake not working. HD recommend not doing it.

I should at least replace the rear pads which should be simply enough still.
You should also measure the width of the disc to see that it is serviceable, IMO.
