Fuel pump issue
2 months ago I broke my right thumb so I couldn’t ride. Shortly before I replaced the battery- bike was running great. It was on a battery tender while parked and I started it weekly just to keep things moving.
Yesterday I’m back to riding. Starts great all day. End of the day and I need to move the bike. I turn on the ignition and the power switch- fuel pump starts priming. I accidentally hit the “start” button momentarily before the fuel pump has finished priming. Everything clicks loud, and bike won’t start.
Currently: Bike turns on like normal, but 80% of the time the fuel pump doesn’t start priming. When this happens the starter relay clicks continuously. Clicking continues until I turn the bike back off. Occasionally it will prime, but then then when I try to start it I get one loud “click” and then nothing. Battery is fully charged.
So far: I replaced both the relays on the fuse box. Using a meter, I’ve found that the fuel pump fuse isn’t getting any power. All other fuses are getting power. I changed the fuel pump fuse just to be sure that isn’t the issue. Still no power.
So yeah- what has happened here? I’m not very knowledgeable about this stuff.
I doubt loud clicks are a relay more like the starter solenoid.
The fuel pump gets its power through the system relay which feeds power to the fuse. See the wiring diagram.
A relay may appear good and clicks and all but you need to check the resistance of the switched contacts when energised.
Even though you changed the relay it might be the socket is corroded.
