lol, so the miniapes are $60 at the dealer. the service dept wants over 600 just for the install! effin thieves!!
and thats an average quote i got from 3 dealers!
are they smokin crack? 600 bucks for a 60 dollar part.
another bug up my azz about HD is that to add this, you have to relocate this, that, and the other thing. cant they design a damn part to fit around the current bike spec's?
It takes about 10 hours to install Apes and I don't care what kind of bike it is you still have to add this and relocate that...... it's just the way it is.
When in question, it is better to keep your mouth shut and appear ignorant than to open it and remove all doubt. Change the bars yourself and let us know how much time it takes as well as the "extra" parts required. If you can do it in one day and spend less than $50, be a doll and tell us how.
Once your done checking it out, you'll find you need a new clutch cable, brake line and throttle/idle cables. Hand control switch wires will need to be lengthened (or replaced with new switches that have extra length wires). Add an hour or so for internal wiring.
And yes, that dent on the handle bar is supposed to be there.
Sorry to be so harsh. I wish you the best.

Just went through this mod myself. The cost of the bars is just a small part of the actual cost. Adding mini apes requires that you replace cables etc. It was less of a suprise for me, because I asked when we bought the bars what else needed to be replaced.
I'm an engineer working with the auto industry and know that every inch of cable costs $$, andH-Das a public company is under pressure to increase profit by reducing cost.It makes perfect sense to me thatthey would only fit cable lengths that were required for the stock bars.
I asked a local indy shop the other day how much they would charge to put mini apes on my bike and he quoted me $700. I stared at him for a few seconds then left.
Capttawes sent me a list of everything he used to change his out and the cost is really low. I'll just have to do it myself.
