So most here do the math on paper or in your heads for mileage at the gas pump.( 40-55 miles per gallon)
This is not counting driving hapits like speeding reving warm up ect.
i use the power vision as a gauge cluster and that includes mpg.but there is a differance.
When i do the math on paper i get 45mpg, on the pv it says 35.2mpg
So there are to differances really
1. When we fill up air temp and where we fill up too vary But not enough for a 10mpg differance.
Now the big one is this ( read the artical by popular sci. Linked to mpg)
2. We are going by mpg and the pv is going by mp100g ( there is up too a 17% differance compare the two)
Is there a point or you are just pointing out the PV is very inaccurate and isn't worth using?
NO!!
what is pointing out is it compares differently. If you read the artical mpg is far different the what is becoming the new standard and that is why there is a large difference. It is not apples to apples but apples to peaches
"It is not apples to apples but apples to peaches."
It's actually comparing gallons/ounces to liters//cc's (grams). And we all know a litre is more than a quart. Why not km/litre? Or, miles/litre? For those of us who travel to Baja California, we buy gas down there by the liter, but of course, our speedometers are in miles.

John
pv can be switched from gallon to liter but since both the bike bike and pv are u.s companies and the populare mech. Artical are for the u.s market we are keeping it simple
When you run the calculator, you are computing the actual mileage driven vs actual fuel used, typically over a few tanks worth, to get a measured average.
The PV is calculating theoretical fuel consumption, based on PW/VE tables/RPM/load, and averages the estimated cruise MPG with the estimated power MPG to provide an estimated guess.
Since it has no connection to the fuel level, or actual fuel consumed, it's not going to be as accurate as hand calculation.
Are any of you reading the artical that is linked in for popular mech? Or just fixsating on the pv there is a up to17% difference between the mpg and mp100g that is what the ps artical is about
Your link didn't work for me, but if you're talking about the MPG story in Pop Sci, and what is normally found in the new car sticker, they are using gallons per 100 miles, not miles per 100 gallons. If you do the math right, me thinks they should be the same.

yes i did the post at like 330am local but it is a good artical if people read it
John Harper :- A litre is more than quart in the USA, but here in the UK, a quart is 40 fluid ounces, a litre is only one and three quarter UK pints or 35.1951 fluid ounces.
Your American quart is only 32 fluid ounces, so yes in your country a litre is the larger of the two.
My 2011 Iron 883's 3.3 US gallon fuel tank capacity is only 2.8 of our UK gallons.
My Iron 883 gives me 52 mpg, I live in the English Pennine Hills so my motor has to work to earn it's keep.
