Thanks for your reply Andy,

I do have the use of a fully equipped engineers workshop facility, a pillar drill will be all that I need to drill holes into the carbon for the internal wiring. The carbon is 3K twill weave which is sprayed with a UV resistant clear coat. The carbon is suitable for aerospace applications, so a motorcycle should be no problem for it to cope with. I've already made a pair of upper fork stanchion covers from the gloss version of this carbon fibre.

The carbon fibre is Katana brand which is manufactured by Toray Carbon in Japan.

I would think the CF bars would also offer vibration damping.

If it's to match those stanchion covers, then why not. They already have the bars for motorcycles though.

I also made a pair of gloss black upper stanchion covers from 50mm x 40mm x 180mm aluminium tube, I cut the tubes to 180mm, de-burred the ends an I got my local metal coaters to powder coat them in gloss black. See the result below, I think they look great, the 50mm diameter gives the forks a beefier look. All in all it only cost me Ł25.00 to make the pair, that's a lot cheaper than buying ready made covers at Ł90.00 t0 Ł120.00.

I've recently laid my bike down, and the standard aluminum bars bent. However, I was able to ride it home. I assume carbon fiber would snap and make that impossible, so I'd leave the aluminum bars.

aluminum bars are not standard on XL’s. I don’t know of any HD bike that has aluminum bars from the factory.

I've gone off the idea of carbon fibre bars now, I'm currently looking for a pair of stainless steel drag bars that I can get chemically blackened.

I have a friend who owns a chemical blackening plant, the fasteners on my Iron 883's motor are chemically blackened stainless steel.
