Default 1977 Ironhead question

Hey everybody,

Finally starting to work on my new to me 1977 XLCH Ironhead and I have a question. When I bought the bike from PO, it had a cracked sprocket cover. I know from research that HD used to have a part (34848-77) that addressed this issue, but I cannot find one anywhere. Are there any other workarounds, like a later model cover that is beefier that will fit...or...?

I tried to upload two pictures, not sure where they went!

If previous owner replaced the sprocket kick start-shaft bushing, it will generally crack the cover. HOWEVER there is a replacement for it. Look up Sports Parts online. Kirk is selling them for around $45. OR web search SPORTSTERPEDIA,com for DYI version. I don't need one for my 77. I'm 71 years old and only use the kicker in an emergency.

Man, that’s a super rare Confederate edition factory paint job. Don’t do anything to it!

I've been wracking my old brain lookin for some info for ya. Here ya go . . . . XL Forum. JOIN IT. The click on Ironhead Section. Now on the top look for Search. Type in - kicker support bracket. First post gives ya instructions for to make that damn obsolete part. You will have to replace that cracked one unless ya get it welded . . . but that would look like crap. The 78 CH uses the same cover and inherits the same problem. Best bet is an Ebay Special, after ya make/get a kicker support bracket. GOOD LUCK, my slightly younger Brother.
