Default Fork Nut issues

I have a sportster xl1200x. been trying to change forks springs to progressive ones. i had no problem taking of the right hand side fork nut. when i tried to take left side nuts off it seems to jump back down a thread at the last few turns. any ideas?

If the fork nut is loose it should lift off, it's not held in by anything ... if you are trying to pull the spring it should pull out like the other side did ... or are you trying to remove the sliders

Agree with FreedomRider, unless the bottom of the spring is 'hung up' on something, it
should come right out the top. If you're actually trying to separate the fork tube from
the slider, it is not happening until you remove the bottom/center bolt that goes into
the damper rod and remove the seal around the tube(etc)

Here's a 'basic' image showing the parts - from RonniesHD Microfiche...

What year model do you have ? If I remember correctly, a 'cartridge' was used in the left hand side
from around ~2016+. Here's an image of the parts breakdown from RonniesHD microfiche...
