Default 1k service

without haveing lots of time my bike was apporaching the 1k service mark. i decided to take it ot the dealer and pay them to do it. i know they rip you off and what not, but i basically didnt have the time. besides i figured for the first service let the dealer do the fluids/inspections and tighening of all things. well i got the call it was all done and ready to be picked up. so i then went and got the bike. all i can say is i am glad i had the dealer do the service. the bike idles/runs a lot better. and also i decided to changed the oil to synthetic on this first service.

That's exactly what I did at 1k miles and I definitely do not regret it.

I'm about to take it in for the 5k checkup now.

While I do most of my own wrenching I think it's wise to have the dealer do the 1K service. There are a number of things that need addressing after the first 1000 miles and it protects your warranty. If you have the dealer do only 1 service, have them do the 1K. Just my personal .02

I won't let HD service touch my bike.

To many past bad experiences of the bike coming back broke in some way.

I agree, it's best to have the stealer do the first service. When the bike comes from the factory, everything is torqued and preset to allow the critical componants (rockers, cam, etc.) to "wear" themselves in. Depending on how hard you ride it, the readjustment and inspection of these componants could be critical to the life and performance of your engine. For the most part, I plan on doing my own oil changes and basic engine maintenance. I'll take her to the stealer for all the milestone check-ups.

Had my 1k done at the dealer but only due to it being free. I've done the rest of the service since I enjoy working on the bike and saving money the money.

I WAS going to get my 1000 mile service done at the stealership, but after looking in my manual, I realized they really don't do a lot. Seems like they just check your primary chain for tension, drive belt, clutch, etc. I didn't see anywhere where they look at rockers, cams, or even anything else engine related. Maybe pull a plug and stick it back in??

I guess Lima Harley Davidson gives you more bang for your buck then 'cause that's what they do for your first check up according to the service manager I talked to when I took my scoot in for it's 1K tune up. I didn't tear it apart and check to see if they did as they said. I'll just take their word for it. All I know is that whatever they did, she sure purred like a mean little kitten when I got her back.
