Not having a good morning...gone and did it, even after reading about it on here, was rushing to get to work stopped to fill my tank as I had just clciked over to reserve about 15 miles ago and glanced up to see the ticker and when I looked back down....there it was gushing all over the place....$hit. Cleaned her up the best I could with the crappy brown paper towels and hoped it wouldn't blow when I started her....got to work and got a nice cotton cloth and cleaned her up good, don't believe any damage done, I just feel like a dumb a$$
Keep the nozzle down into the tank further. Providing it's working, the auto-shut off on the pump should kick off the flow as you get close to full. I did overflow mine once when the auto-shutoff didn't work. It soaked the jugs with fuel and scared the $hit out of me.
Nick, Years ago I knew a guy that had a mind fart for a second, thought he heard a rattle from his exhaust headers, and grabbed both with his hands to give them a good shake ------when they were blue hot. He said all he heard was a sizzle and then one holy hell of a lot of pain.
This same guy was tinkeringon hisHarley a couple months laterand some girl walked up to his bike at the apartment he lived at and said "Nice bike". He got to talking to her andoffered her a ride and she said sure. He got so excited about having her on he forgot what he was doing, jumped on the Harley, hit the start button andWHOOF, the damn thing started on fire and burned up!
You know, somehow I don't doubt he is dead by now.
The heck with the pump's guages! Just keep your eye on the tank and fill it. If you've got an odd amount when done, try to round it off but if you can't - so what?
I can't imagine having to do something else forthe 30seconds it takes to fill a 4.5 galfuel tank, so I rather fill it by looking in the tank rather than trust an auto-shut off in such a small tank.
