Default Gas n' paint

After spilling gas on my tank this morning I got to reading some posts about taking the paint off with gas. Mine has clear coat and I wiped it off as soon as it happened then cleaned it with a dry cloth at work. Should I rinse it off when I get home and do I need to wax it? if so what products do people recommend?

I have some pig spit at home would this work or does it need to be more wax like?

Don't worry short term about it taking off your paint. It will remove any wax you had on the bike where the gas spilled. I would just wash it with mild soap and water and rewax. All I use on my bike is Simple Green as a detergent and Lemon Pledge to clean and wax the chrome & tins when done. Search the forum site here, you will find a number of posts using the same, Simple Green & Pledge. They work well.

Pledge? hmmm, never thought of using that.
I use a good quality paste wax a couple times a year & dust with a swiffer before each ride.

Yep, lemon pledge furniture polish.. it's a very mild cleaner and wax. I use it to touch up the tins & chrome between washes as well as after I wash the bike. Also works great for cleaning the bikes windshield if you have one and prevents bugs from sticking so bad. There really are a number of previous posts here on the forum about people using it. Give it a try.

A quick wipe down (tins & chrome) after each wash with a spray can of Pledge will keep the paint and chrome really clean & shiney. I wouldn't kid you.

You can also use a automotive quick detailer thats made for paint! I use the detailer in between washing the bike. Some contain a polish. I like Mothers brand.
