Just got a 2007 XL1200L Sportster. Has the security FOB in it already and I just bought the Smart Siren II to add to it. Installation seemed easy when looking at the directions that came with it, but when I started to do the installation, I couldn't get to the factory security system because it is under the batter. I took the batter out, but still couldn't get to the security module. Thought I could go from the other side but no luck. Looks like the only way is by the rear tire and obviously I don't want to have to take that off. Also, the directions say to connect the triangular connecter of the Siren to the bike. I didn't see any triangular connector from the bike that it could connect to.
Does anyone have better directions on how to install this?
I've gotten a couple other accessories for my bike and the directions for all seem vague. Wish they'd be more specific and have better illustrations.
I installed the siren to my 07 , you have to take the battery out, the triangular plug you need sits in front of the battery. Once found you can grab that part of the harness and move( feed ) it out from behind the shield ( battery compartment). As shown in figure #1 in the instructions, it will then be positioned somewhere near the rear brake mastercylinder reservoir as shown in the directions.
I am looking at my instructions and there very easy to understand. Your not looking for the security module you are looking for a portion of the wiring harness with a dust cap on it.
