I was just pricing chrome covers for everything. Ouch. Would love spoked wheels and different fenders. . .[sm=sigh.gif]. New handlebars to give me a comfier reach would be nice. Probably not worth putting a lot of cash into this older bike. . . Pass the cheese, please. . .
Handlebars were very uncomfortable (changed them), don't care for the mid controls (plan to change soon), and have mixed feelings about the factory seat- it looks okay and at times I can ride all day and it hardly hurts my tail but sometimes just 20 or 30 miles and it's killing me. Those are my only real complaints.
What I did to mine....changed tank, rear fender, went with bobbed frnder and a fatbob tank...Pipe Dreamz wet dreamz duals..Hypercharger, lots of chrome..planned upgrades...ape hangers, wide glide front end or springer, undecided on that, wide rear tire, and an open primary...oh yeah gonna upgrade the motor up to a 100 horse! H-D needs to listen and give buyers more options for Sportsters.....
One other thing...gonna do away with the pink and going black...always had black bikes gonna go back to my favorite tried and true favorite color for a bike...oh yeah, also added saddle bags and detatchable luggage rack and also have a detatchable sissy bar, Mustang solo seat and pass. pad..factory seats suck!!!Lots of custom leather too...love the look!!!
the first main problem that i had with my bike was the exhaust, I drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the baffle / freeze plug sounds better and did not loose any power. the next was the the way the footpegs scraped when hittinf the corners hard....Fixed, raised them ***** up
I will go +1 on the tank size, and ditto on the seat. I have received my Mustang Fastback, and installed it. I haven't had time to ride it yet as the rear tire is flat, but I will remedy that tomorrow. Just sitting on it is much more comfortable than the stock solo though. When I get the tire fixed in the morning I will clean it up and post some pics with the new seat. I am also going to order the forward controls as soon as finances allow.
I lowered the front fender about an inch. The stock height is about an 1.5 inches and you could see air between the fender and tire. So I took the fender off and taped a 1/2 inch hose to the top of the tire. Put the fender on and marked the wholes.Drilled theholes and put the fender back on. Put machine bolts and acorn nuts in the old holes. Now it looks cool. My two friends havemetric bikes and their fenders are right down on the tire. I don't know what Harley was thinking putting that fender up so high.
I hate the suspension...maybe I should say the lack of suspension.
I don't like the mismatched wheels with spokes up front, solid in rear. One or the other wold have made me happier.
I'm still looking for 6th gear after riding it for three months.
Now that I have replaced the front pegs and shifter the damn "meat tenderizer" rear brake pedal just doesn't match and it drives me crazy.
It took me two months to get the mirrors adjusted so I could almostsee past my shoulders. I've pretty much gotten used to the seat though I haven't been on any long rides (100+ miles).
Ordering parts costs me too much...the exhaust was too quiet so I punched out the stock baffles. I didn't like the sound so that lead to a set of V&H slip-ons which then meant I had to get some sort of EFI fuel management system to get rid of the decel popping. Since I was getting the fuel management I figured I should go ahead and get a better A/C along with it. Since I was ordering online and getting a 20% discount whgy not add some more chrome bling since I was getting a discount?
