Default Comp u fire ignition module troubles

Alright guys new member and first post, long time lurker though.
The bike is a 2001 sportster with a 1250 NRHS stroker kit. I'm in the process of trying to install a comp u fire 21835 ignition module. I followed the instructions on the install closely but now that I'm at the wiring I'm completely lost at this point. As per the instructions I capped the white and green wires (voes and tac I believe) I ran the black wire to the right side of the coil and the red to the left side of the coil. I initially ran a jumper cable from the left side of the coil to the red wire on the ignition switch and temporarily had the boots from the stock ignition module holding the new wires onto the coil studs. I got a very weak crank and a delayed backfire through the carb a few times.

It stopped cranking all together but the ignition module light comes on when you turn the key over in the ignition. I was tinkering with it last night and the coil was scary hot so I disconnected everything to take power away from it. I dug into the wiring diagrams in the manual and saw the black and white wire that was on the coil originally powers the run/stop switch, start button and connects to the starter relay so I reconnected that wire to the coil on the same side. Still nothing and no attempt at cranking. I checked the ignition fuse and it was blown, I replaced it and tried again and it immediately blew as soon as the ignition got turned on. I also swapped the jumper cable over from the red hot wire on the ignition switch to the red and black wire coming out of the ignition switch that's labeled as ignition in the diagram.

I'm lost at this point and I'm hoping someone sees what I did wrong plane as day. Wiring isn't my forte but this is starting to feel ridiculous. I emailed the comp u fire guys and ran them through my install and they said it seems like I did everything correct so far as they can tell.

I think the important thing is not that the red wire is either right or left, because it matters then how the coil is mounted. Rather the red wire goes to the side of the coil that the ignition switch wire already goes to.

Alright getting somewhere! I now have functional start stop switches and it tries to crank again. No spark now though. I put the old stock coil on after I thought I burned up the Dyna coil I had on it messing with the module. I'll check the plugs and wires and the coil again

Alright I'm still getting no spark showing at the plugs using a plug tester. As per the instructions for the comp u fire I need a red wire on one side and the black on the other. I have the white and black wire (the run/off switch) with the red wire as well as a jumper that goes to the red and black ignition wire from the ignition switch. Reading the trouble shooting steps in the maintenance manual are now confusing as hell, stock it had the white and black on one side and a pink on the other. I have 4 wires now and the white and black is on the opposite side it originally was so it's on the same terminal as the wire from the ignition. Swapping that wire to the terminal with the ignition wire made it able to crank again. I checked the coil with an ohms meter and it's within specs of the manual. My battery was a little low so it's charging right now. Any advice would again be appreciated

Ignition coil has 2 hi voltage (spark plug) and 2 low voltage connections. Low voltage connections 1 - from ignition unit, 2 from switched power.
