Are you meaning marked as in 1 through 4, such that 2 of the cams are swapped, or marked as in maybe they are a different grind and not the 560 cams. Both of those things crossed my mind. I'm going to check the box the cams came in. As for maybe in the wrong order it looks like that would be obvious based on where the dots are placed on the cam gears, ie some dots are on the gear others on the base.
The lobes should be marked HP560-1/2/3/4. Was hoping you saw that.
Are Hammers cams made by andrews? Just noticing in the picture I posted the cams have an andrews part number but it doesn't really match up to anything in their catalog.
Yes. And they too have been known to make human errors. Rarely.
I appreciate all the help. I agree that Hammer has done plenty of these so it should it be pretty standard by now. And the motor was a vanilla 883 bone stock so there shouldn't have been any surprises there. So it doesn't seem like the issue should be with the combustion chamber. Maybe they sent me a more aggressive cam and I just didn't notice. I do recall the pushrods sitting deeper than I thought they would but still in the recommended spec.
A more aggressive cam would result in less compression. A less aggressive cam would result in more compression. So it's the latter possibility I'm trying to eliminate.

I do have a set of Andrews N2 Cams and my first thought when I saw the AP serial number was maybe I put the wrong cams in.

Well. I've been trying to tune this new motor and can't get it to stop pinging at WOT in 4th and 5th. Did a compression test and it's coming in at 225 psi front and rear. I talked with Hammer a few days ago and Dan said I may need to send the heads back and have a little more material taken off to lower the compression. Hammer said you really want to be below 200 psi to run on pump gas. Anyone have any experience with this?
If you haven't tried colder plugs yet i'd give it a try, and I'd start by putting one in the front cylinder first to see if there's any difference.
