I run mid controls with a set of Harley 360 Highway pegs.
They are fully adjustable so you can mount them in any position to fit your riding position 100%. Total comfort.

Bubba, do the Harley 360 pegs mount to the frame or an engine guard? You do have them on your Sportster, right?
I have the 360s on my King and they mount to the engine guard.
I converted my '11 Custom to mids as well, and put the Harley adjustable hwy pegs in the forward position. They are frame mounted. You might be hard-pressed to find frame mounted peg mounts on your 2003. Most are for 2004 and up. I like the hwy pegs as it allows me different leg positions for those long rides.
When I was looking a few years back I don't recall any good options for highway pegs for the rigid mount sportsters. I used forward controls without the controls.

An older pic, but the bike hasn't changed much.
Nice bike! I have a 2011 EG Ultra with highway pegs and they will defiantly spoil you. When I ride the Sporty I feel all folded up.

I like your style! Great looking bike and I might just have to go with forward controls. Only thing is that I like to stand up occasionally to ease the rear end pain. I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too.
