Default Tire Mileage

Does anybody know the estimated mileage we should be getting out the stock rear tire. A guy at my dealership is telling me 7,000 - 10,000 miles is about average for a rear tire. I wanted to have them put on a chrome sprocket but he suggested I just wait till I need the rear tire replaced at 7k. Said they wouldn't charge me if I do it with the rear tire change.

While we're at it, what's the life of a front tire too? Thanks.

me too but a bit pricey - might have to sober up for a day or two in order to afford it - screww it - I'm rasin my plowing rates - energy surcharge my a$$ - chrome surcharge!

figure 1/2 what you wouold expect from a car tire - 1200c could probobly sent you mileage expectation down to the foot - guy's amazing with his figures - glad he's around

Molsen....My dealer is going to charge me $65 labor plus parts which of course is the sprocket itself. Not sure if I am going to use the sprocket cover HD offers for $45 or if I am going to get a whole new sprocket which is like $200. Still looking for feedback regarding that.

Brings you to the MoCo's page on chrome rear sprockets - range in price from $349 - $359

http://www.harley-davidson.com/brows...bmLocale=en_US

like the look - fugure theres a shipping fee - mabe can get a discount (chicago HD) mabet not.

I myself think I'm going to stick to the "trinkets" (stering stem bolt cover, seat, ect) for a while, till I get some miles racked up: ho ho ho santa "I'm writin a list and I'm gettin writers cramps"

HD makes a chrome sprocket cover Part Number 91746-03 for '04-'06 Sportsters. It retails for $45.95. I also saw the whole kit, chrome sprocket cover, and chrome upper and lower belt guards at www.jpcycles.com for $126.99. That's JP stock number 601-976.

I have also found aftermarket sprockets online that start a little over $200 +. Just not sure if it's worth the extra coin to do the whole sprocket or just use a cover. Seems like the covers are getting very popular with many.

I usually get about 10,000 out of a rear, and 20,000 out of a front on a dresser. Right now my EG Classic has 10,000 on it, and the taire looks like it will go another 2,000

Regards,

Bill

12,000 on the front so far. dealer had changed rear tire when I bought it at 5,100. I was concerned about that and dealer said previous owner had run over something with rear tire. I've got about 7,000 on rear tire and it looks almost new.

Got almost 14,000 on my front and rear. Rear looks in better shape than front at this point.
