Default Headlight bucket finish failing already? **Updated**

**Update** Eagle lights reached out and sent me a new light. Really cool. Sometimes things happen, but how a company reacts to that says a lot. I can't say enough good thinks about their cusomer service (thanks Jared). Top notch.

Wow. So I got a new light a while back from eagle lights and the powder coating is already toast after like 4k miles. Frankly it was starting to go south after just a few months. This is a $500 light. I love the light but this is pretty bad. I also see water in the LED's when I wash it. I have a chrome bucket I can replace it with and have it recoated but it's so irritating. The powder on the TC Bros mids I have is also doing the same thing. The bike is garaged and never sits out in the sun.

I am also just thinking about taking some very fine sand paper to it and just make it a matte finish.

What did Eagle Lights say when you contacted them about this issue?

What did TC Bros say when you contacted them about this issue?

I would try using a micropolish like Meguir's Scratch X on it. I've had good luck using it on paint and powdercoat.

Ya, I'm not trying to knock eagle lights directly. The buckets are outsourced I'm sure and the light itself is really nice. By far the best light I have had on this bike. It just seems that almost every aftermarket part I have bought I've had to recoat in short order because the coatings have been terrible. The exceptions have been the fork brace, sprocket cover, and crash bar, but those were all really pricey. It is what it is but fit and finish these days just sucks. People complain about harley paint and chrome, but in my experience their stuff is exceptional compared to aftermarket.

Depends on the aftermarket parts. Arlen Ness aftermarket parts are not the same a the Amazon no-name aftermarket parts.

I think I may just swap over to the chrome one. I think it's the heat from the light that is probably causing the coating to fail. I would expect chrome would hold up better.

On other forums I recommend folk contact suppliers, even more so if stuff is less than a year old. Suppliers need a rocket to see the crap they are sending out all the time.

Taking a philosophical view is letting them off the hook, IMO.

Might the "salty air" where you live have anything to do with the issue ?
Just wondering. I'd be tempted to just use a scuff pad & cleaner on the
bucket, then rattle-can it with quality gloss black since you're switching
the bucket for the chrome one....

good luck,

T.
