Default Reduce RPM

Hello all. I have a 2003 883 XLH and would like to reduce the RPM at highway speeds and know that I should go to a larger front pulley (32?).
So, I would like to hear from someone who has actually made the change to a larger front pulley and how do you like it? I only ride one up so lightly loaded.
Thanks!

Not an XLH owner, so I can't get into specifics, but I did have a 34-tooth pulley/sprocket put on all three of my early Twin-cams. Loved it on every one. It changed the bike to be more "perfect-er" for the way I ride. Here's a THREAD I STARTED HERE on my experience.

Here is a post showing where you might need to grind a boss for clearance with a 32 tooth pulley.

An easy enough change on an XL
Try it, if you don`t like it, change it back

The best "all-around" front pulley for 1991-2003 883's is the 29T. This is great for constant cruise to 70 mph.
If you plan on 75 mph as a common cruise RPM, go to the 30T, Solo this pulley is fine. A little "doggy" 2-Up.
DO NOT go to a 32T on the 1991-2003 883, you will not like it. The 1200's can handle the 32T, but you only want it if you are frequently 75+ mph.
The 32T is common on the 2004-2022 883's because of the lower Primary, engine to transmission, ratio. It is about the same as putting a 29T on the early 883's.
The aluminum pulleys fail at the center spline at 8-9,000 miles.
The aluminum pulleys with center spline of steel fail at both the center spline and outer drive teeth at about 12,000 miles.

I have a 31 tooth up front and a 66 in the rear on my 2016 XL1200X. I personally did not want to screw with modifications for the 32 Tooth front. I'm well pleased with the results.

Here is a link to the math on the RPM reductions and speedometer variations for both a 1200 and an 883 when doing the various swaps.

I bought my gear from Robert (sirrom1) at 883Sportster.com https://www.883sportster.com/ who also furnished the attached chart and has offered you great advice in the post above mine.

Seems like an easy enough job. Do the swap and if its not to your liking, swap it back to original.

As long as you use the right tools and don't bust your transmission.
