Hey all,
After much researchon here about what primary/tranny oil to use in my Sportster, I decided to change it out today with Mobil 1 75w90. Though the opinions on here were mixed, I figured I'd give it a shot and see if it makes any difference in the tranny's performance.
One question, though. There were quite a bit of shavings on the drain plug? Is this normal? I bought the bike last month with 1800 miles on it and have since put on 1200 more miles. When I bought the bike, the original owner said he had all the scheduled maintenance done on time. I can't get a hold of him to ask ifthe primary oil wasever changed as it was supposed to be. Maybe this oil never got changed out at the 1000 mile mark, and that's the reason for the shavings? Maybe shavings are normal? Any input is appreciated.
Well, it's sunny and 75 degrees. I'm outta here!! Going for a nice long test ride!!................Mike
The local bike shop (not HD dealer) sells Gear and chaincase oil especially blended for Sportsters. The label says Drag Specialties out of Janesville, Wi. It is a GL5 classifacation. Anyway I bought a quart $5.00 and wondered if any of you guys have heard of it.
http://www.dragspecialties.com/fatbo...portster%20oilHere's a link to 10HP only if your bike is black. This oil confusion is a pain, the dealer put in syn3 @ 1000mi., some guys sayit's NFG and use Amzoil 20-50 V twin, some guys say that's no good and use 75-90 syn gear oil, here is an oil blended for Sportsters chain case and nobody knows about it.Hell I'm going to try it.
