Hello all, I have an 05 1200 custom. Lately it has been giving me troubles, at 1/4 throttle or so. When I accelerated the engine would just die. I changed the plugs, still nothing. So I ended up taking to the dealer. After 6 days in the shop they advised me that the ignition switch needed replaced. My bike is out of warranty by 4 months. I only have 2200 miles on the bike. I was hoping the dealer would be able to cover the part, and labor under warranty. All the dealer would offer was a 10% discount. I asked them to call Harley and see what they would be willing to do. Harley advised the dealer (which I find it hard to believe the dealer did not know) that there is a 5 year 10k mile warranty on all emission parts.
I wanted to put this out there just incase some other’s might have the same problem I had. My phone call to Harley saved me almost $500.00.
For that kind of money its the ICM not the switch as the switch does nothing more than engage the battery circuit. The problem not only sounded like the ignition but also perhaps the crank position sensor. Good thing had them call HD but I imagine they were just trying to take your money and knew that it was covered.
