It doesn't matter as long as you use an oil and filter that meets the manufacturer's requirements and change it when it needs it.

Any of the top Group IV synthetic 20w50 oils are fine. Mobil-1, Red Line, Royal Purple, Amsoil.

HD's Syn-3 is a Group 3 hydrocracked synthetic oil made from a Dino oil base and supplied by Citgo. Why use it when for about the same price you can get a better quality Group IV product? The only reason that HD can sell this stuff is that most people don't know squat about oil and they think anything with HD on the label must be best for their HD bike.

I agree!

The Harley oil & filters are a rip off!

I've been using Mobil 1 & Hi Flow filters. Hi Flow is the company the makes the hd filters. Same filter only 6 bucks cheaper without the HD stamp.

I do not represent any oil company or distributor. As a qualifier I used to work in the oil analysis lab for the army (after I retired)
it was called the AOAP program. Anyway I would recommed using AMSOIL. I used Mobil 1since it's inception (for about 30 years)
until it is no longer all synthetic. There is one type that is but I have forgottenwhichone. It'seasier to just to get the Amsoil 20w-50 for the engine and 75w-90 for the transmission.

I know people say they want to get it locally, like Wal Mart. They will say they need to buyit if they are on a trip and need to change oil. . (Some trip 5,000 miles ?) Usually there is some one that sells it in your area and you can get it in one or two days. Cost maybe more, but what is a dollar compared to a bad engine or trans. ??

Like I said this is only my opinion. I use it and I like it. Engine sounds better and trans shifts great. You can get it lab tetsed if you want, there are several companies that do this. I am sure there are some folks on this site that have theirs tested periodically.

The Mobil 1 20W-50 V-Twin (the Mobil oil most frequently used in air cooled V-Twin engines) is still 100% synthetic.

Used both Mobil 1 V-Twin and Amsoil over the years, and although both are good lubricants I haven't noticed one bit of actually difference between the two.

If you change your oil and filter at reasonable intervals any oil will be just fine in your bike.

Engines don't worry nearly as much about the type of oil being used as the people that own bikes.
