Is a 2007 1200C with the new FI worth 8500.00? I've been looking for a Sportster and happened across the ebay Sportster being sold due to a divorce settlement. Only has a couple thousand miles on it and a Buy It Now price of $ 8500.00It's located about 150 miles from me and looks nice but I think it pretty close to a new cost isn't it?
Really didn't want to spend that much or get a bike that new but if the price is good... well who knows..
BTWthe Fuel Injection is about the only thing new for 2007 isn't it?
Has anyone been successful in finding a nice bike on ebay at a fair price? Shipping is another issue and can be costly so I'm trying to buy as local as possible..
1) Be extremely cautious buying a bike on Ebay - it's full of great opportunities AND huge scams
2) Be doubly cautious when the listing mentions anything like "selling for a friend", "must sell due to divorce", "must sell now that babie's on the way", etc. Could be 100% true but then again.....
3)If it's not a reputable dealer with a 100% satisfaction, money back guarantee and great Ebay feedback, I wouldn't even bid on it until I'd seen it in person and had a mechanic check it out.
4)Doubt if you'll find a new XL1200C for that price, especially when you add in tax, title, tags, and fees. More like the $10,000 range
5)If it checks out and it's in great shape, $8500 isn't such a bad price
yes!!
definetely good deals can be found on ebay, with a little research and patience.. back in july i got a bug to get my first harley after being away from bikes for 20yrs.. watched auctions for a few wks seeing what they were selling for.. definetely cheaper prices than what i see locally around tulsa, okla..
was watching an 06 1200 custom w/quik detach-sissy bar,a few extra chrome items. and black cherry and black pearl, with 9800 miles.. put a last minute bid in of 5800.00 and won it.. AZ toy store in mesa,AZ was the seller and great to deal with... had it shipped to okla for 650.00
have really enjoyed the whole experience from start to present!!!
after you make a purchase continue to use ebay for finding the best prices on all the accessories!!!!!!!!!!
if you have any questions please feel free to contact me..
and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem with Ebay is buying a motorcycle at a distance. You really have to get up close and check it out. There are plenty of Sportsters on Craigslist that come with extras, i.e. better seat, backrest, shocks, windshield, chrome, etc. that can be had for a good price. A low mileage bike with the extras that interest you can be a better deal.
doug,
the bike is definetely close enough you can email the seller and make arrangements to look at the bike if you think it's what you want?? or just keep browsing ebay and you'll find some more good deals close to you.. i'm always browsing the bikes on there and continually see some really good deals on sportsters, and the big twins also!! just be patient.. getting the best price on the best bike makes the whole experience more fun!! and leaves you more cash for the extra's you find on ebay also.. could care less if i ever buy anything from the dealer unless absolutely necessary..
ebay gives you a good idea of what the bikes are selling for in all areas..
doug,
just went on and looked at the bike your looking at?? in peru,in?? sounded very legit.. unfortunately people have bad circumstances come up. which sometimes helps others get an occasional good deal...
sure if you visit with him and go look. you can get him down a bit more with a cash offer!!!
again good luck!
Doug, I bought mine off of eBay almost a year ago. The person I bought from was 155 miles away. Before I bid, I contacted the seller about the condition and terms of the sale. I wanted to know that if the bike wasn't as advertised that I'd get my deposit back. He agreed and I bought the bike. Turns out the scoot was even better than described. I suggest you make contact with the seller and ask questions. Like others have stated, it's not that far a drive if you want to look first. If he doesn't want to give you a chance to look first, then I'd look elsewhere.
NADA shows '07 XL1200C low retail at $7,250 and ave retail at $9,500. $8,500 is not a steal but is a good price for a bike in good condition. I lookedat 2 Ebay bikes, but found mine off Craigs list. Either way I would only be comfortable buying a bike I could see 1st hand. I found many bikes can be bought for payoff, so the '04 and '05 years worked best for me. This is definitely the time to get your best buy from a motivated seller. Kinda sucks to have winter coming though. I think I got a brian freeze riding this morning with frost on the ground.
