I like mine. I ride pretty aggressively so I like the extra ground clearance and it has a TACH. (2004 1200R) It's a shame they got rid of the peanut tank on the new models. I think only the 883R comes with a peanut now. Also thinking about replacing the SEIIs with VH shortshots this winter because I keep scraping the exhaust mounting bolts on the pavement. It's a real nice bike for commuting and carving through traffic , but so is the custom just sits lower is all and does not have a TACH.

Are you buying new or used ?

Thanks for the info, used would work if the deal was right

I was looking at HD's site the 1200R is pretty heavy 585 running order.

Other than my avatar, I haven't got any other pics handy.

I LOVE my 2005 Roadster! It is a very tight bike and perfect for the twisty roads I seek out. I haven't had as much fun riding a bike like this since my Triumph TR6-C back in the 1960's. It has the dual disc front brakes, tach, and (so far) has always run great. I agonixed over the "C" and the "R" when I was shopping and I'm glad I got the "R". Better lean angles and higher groundclearance were my real reasons for getting it - and I haven't regretted it one minute!

If I were to close my eyes and someone said "motorcycle", I would instantly see a pre-2008 Sportster Roadster. IMHO they ruined the 2008 1200 "R" with the larger tank.

Keith,
At 5'11", 280lbs, the Roadster was just about the only choice for me. For my height, I only have a 30" inseam, but I squish it down a bit when I'm on it, so it's no problem to keep my feet on the ground. I took this bike to the Dragon this year and I hit it very hard and layed it way over. I did drag a few times, but it was only because I was pushing it a bit to hard (even for me). There is no way I could have riden that aggressive if I would have been on any other Sportster. Flat out, the best Sporty for the twisties. I did put on a Sundowner for the wife, but I swap it out often with the stocker. Other than long stem black mirrors and SE SP slip-ons, it's stock (no air-box mod). I love this bike more and more everyday. I have attached a few pix. One on the Dragon, one with the Sundowner and SE SP slip-ons, and one stock. Hope this helps.

-Andy

I bought my Xl1200R new in March 2006. I wanted a Sportster for the country roads here, and something thatI cuold ride any day in all weathers. It goes well despite the weight, I fitted a J&P carb re-calibration kit, K&N and SE cat equipped mufflers. The bike has much better performance now and will run on any grade of fuel. My only dislike is the poor damping on the rear shocks, they have to go soon.

Buy one and enjoy it.

i drooled over my 07 for months before i went down an bought it. love the thing, it kicks *** tearing through the city streets and its home on the back roads in the country. i personally dont enjoy the highway for more than an hour or so. but in general im very happy with it. ill upgrade the rear shocks if my wife decides to go with me , andthis winter ill change the exhaust. but i love it anddont have any regrets at all. 35 degrees this morning and i smiled all the way to work.

If I had drooled on mine, it would still be there - lol! I have no time (actually, I don't make any) to be shining it up all the time. When I can be with my bike, I want to be riding - not shining!
