Are motorcycle batterys date stamped so you can determine how long its been sitting on the shelve, before you purchase it?

Default RE: Battery Question

I have seen a code kind of melted into the case before, I would guess the manufacturer uses itlike a serial number and could tell you the date it was made, I certainly wouldn't worry that much about it though.

Default RE: Battery Question

Date codes are often "melted" into the cases. The codes will vary by manufacturer but many use a code that is a letter followed by a number such as H6. The letter is the month of the year and the number the year. In this case, H (8th letter in the alphabet) would be August and 6 is 2006. This 2 character code may appear as part of a series of numbers stamped into the case, such as H68765B.

Again, not all mfg.s are the same

Default RE: Battery Question

The reason I asked is that when I need a battery replacement I don't want one thats been onthe shelf for a year.
