Okay, I'm new at this... Have a '97 Hugger. I had the battery charger connected to the bike. Went out to ridethis morning and the charger had the "trouble" light lit up. Sure enough, battery was dead. Went to purchase a new one at Auto Zone.I was told to get the "sealed" battery but the wonderfully helpful (NOT) guysthere insisted there is no such thing for my year and model. $98 bucks later all my guy friends insist they told me wrong. Now as a female, the good ole service guys at Auto Zone may havejust wanted to get me out thedoor, but giving them the benefit of the doubt... my question is: are there sealed batteries for the '97 model?
Yes, I just bought one from my INDY shop for $76, and he installed it (wanted my old one).
AGM Battery (sealed) Advantages vs. Wet Cell Absorbed Glass Mat Batteries (AGM Batteries)
do not leak, freeze and do not require any maintenance.
An AGM Battery can be stored for a long period of time without charging.

Thanks for the help! I found a custom bike shop near by that had 1 sealed battery left in stock. Told him I was on my way... he sold it to me for $80 tax and all.
Carried the original purchased one back to Auto Zone, guy that told me they do not make such a thing as a sealed battery for my make and model gave me the run around and didn't want to refund my money. We exchanged a few words and I left with my money in my pocket.
Learned my lesson, just because the big name store is easier to get to, doesn't mean they are the easiest to work with. Will certainly be heading to the small business guy from now on!
Yea, most of your chain/franchise stores are impersonal with sub-standard help, cheaper for 'em that way. I always research a little first then head to the local indy/stealership with my ammunition to conduct business.
I just completed my safety course last weekend and after a 2 hour wait at the DMV, Igot my "M" license on Tuesday. Was looking forward toriding on some of the back roads this weekend and trying to find a quickfix. Auto Zone was 2 minutes away...But like I said, lesson learned [8D]... The guys at the custom shop were great. I will certainly be spending more time and money with them in the future! The gave me a stack of business cards and you better believe I'll be sending folks their way!
