This may seem like a dumb question, but the gap between peg and shift peg is a bit small with a good pair of
boots on. Is it possible to put on a longer shift lever off a diff bike that increases this distance. The forward kits
look to have a real nice gap in there, but not wanting to go to forward controls at the moment. Any input
will be greatly appreciated.
Do you really mean longer -or higher (to get your boot under it)? I'm sure someone makes 'em longer, but if you simply want it higher, remove the peg's bolt, pull off the shift lever, move it up a couple of splines, and replace the bolt.
Hey thumper. Yea, I meant longer to provide more room for
my boot. Was hoping someone here had put on forward
controls and might have a longer one lying around. Have
you seen anywhere online that might have them??

OK. I only asked because I bought my bike in the summer and was shifting with sneekers on for a while with no problem. As soon as I put my boots on I couldn't get the boot under the lever to shift, so I raised the lever a bit and voila!, it totally solved the problem.
I'm sure you should be able to find a longer lever at Dennis Kirk, J&P Cycles, or Jireh's.
True story. Had the boot problem as well. Got it hung up one day coming to a red light. So engrossed in trying to get my boot loose of it that I panicked and continued to try harder. In short, I went down because, I eventually came to astand-still. Forgot about the ability to put the other foot down. A real one track mind set was in full bloom. Dumbest thing I've ever done while riding. Embarassed as hell because traffic, at the stop, was present to watch the event. Never will forget that.
Ya. I hope you don't suffer the same fate. Suffice it to say, I got over it and learned to use what I had inspite of the boots. For all its worth, I'd just learn to adjust to the situation. You'll get used to it.
I've seen longer levers off a few Harleys but for some reason the splines are different. I up-shift with my heel and downshift with my toe and never put my toe in that wedge zone....works Okay with highway pegs. I'm cramped with standard mid pegs, but like the handling over forward pegs and wind up the pants, with highway pegs I can do both.
