Default Left turn lights?

As is readily apparent, I am a moto-noob. On my last ride I noticed that at intersections, me & the bike were not enough to register whatever sensor is at the intersection so the system would give me a left turn arrow. What do you do when you can't get that left turn arrow? Run the light? Go a different way?

There is an induction loop embedded in most intersections that emit an electromagnetic field. A car (or motorcycle) that sits on that field loop will cause a change in the magnetic field properties due to it's mass and trips the light. A motorcycle does not have enough mass to trip the sensor. There are traffic light triggers out there that are attached to the bottom of the bike to spoof the sensor into thinking you are a car tripping the sensor. Check on evilbay as I see them all the time.

I bought a magnet and I can't say that it works, contact the person responsible for the traffic lights in your area and tell them you are tired of running red lights, give them the location of the lights and maybe they can adjust them to recognize the bike.

You need to check your state laws. Some states, NC just recently, have rules that deal with this issue. Typically you are allowed to prodcede after waiting a specified time for the signal to activate.

Often you can see the lines in the road where the loop is buried. I always stop over one of the lines and seldom have a problem.

In Texas (atleast the Houston area) when you pull up to a light you will see rectangle section where they have sawcut the concrete and sealed the joints. If you put your motorcycle in that rectangle the light will change. You must position yourself in the middle of the lane. Might want to see if there is something similiar where you live

In Vegas if you stop in the middle of the rectangle you will never trip the arrow, or light. You must stop on either end of the rectangle and get as much of your bike's mass over the line as you can. This is even needed to get a green light. And sometimes you can't just run a red light because of the cross traffic. You must make the light change or turn right. That is one of the drawbacks of living in a big city.

I will have to try and get more bike over the inbeded inductive loop and see if that helps, this is a little off topic but a few weeks ago I ran a light, there was no traffic I see a car about 2 blocks away, ran the light, the bit*h driving the car that was 2 blocks away flips me off as she passes me going the other way........ WTF?
